Eleanor Alice

Artist Statement // In the making of this work, amorphous shape and form were birthed while I allowed water and pigment to travel more wildly than before. Puddles, drips, splashes, and floods; these wet elements pulsated with obscured signs, symbols, and metaphor, that over time with air, were captured; eventually settling in topographical layers over canvas, board, and clay. Nestling over, under and in-between their siblings that knew same, same but different paths, they spoke with each other of the past and relish in the newness of now.

Eleanor Alice is a visual artist based on Kaurna Country, South Australia. Her practice spans painting, ceramic, works on paper and sculpture. Using realistic and abstract interpretations of the world around her, she employs deeply symbolic, metaphorical processes found within diverse acts of making as a means to explore her experience of life. Alice has exhibited publicly for over 20 years. She has been a finalist in The Waterhouse Natural Science, Heysen and Tatiara art prizes and was recently awarded a Guildhouse Catapult Mentorship with esteemed international artist, William Mackinnon.
